Brisbane Broncos<\/a> gun Reece Walsh<\/a> has been cited after the Match Review Committee deemed his try-saving hit on Justin Olam as a shoulder charge.<\/p>\n

In the first half of the Storm's 24-16 win on Thursday night<\/a>, Olam looked certain to score to extend an early lead when Walsh flew from infield to put the kamikaze hit on the centre.<\/p>\n

The hit worked as intended – Walsh knocked the ball from Olam's grasp and it went dead in-goal.<\/p>\n

The hit was judged a grade one shoulder charge, for which Walsh has been fined $1,500, even after it was deemed a fair tackle by the referee and the Bunker official.<\/p>\n

In commentary for Nine, Andrew Johns initially suggested the hit looked like a shoulder charge, but praised Walsh's commitment.<\/p>\n

"He's hit him in the chest there \u2026 hopefully they don't rule on a shoulder charge," he said.<\/p>\n

"Walsh's right arm comes around and in desperation like this, you just throw everything you've got. There's no technique. He just throws himself at Olam and gets the result.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"That's what your coach and your teammates want.<\/p>\n

"He just throws himself – he's got his head in front of the attacker and he just launches at him. This is a brave play. Great desperation."<\/p>\n

Billy Slater agreed, adding that he considered it a legal tackle due to the fact Olam had stepped back into Walsh to stop himself from being taken into touch.<\/p>\n

"They were both headed to the same spot when Olam changes his line to go in towards Reece Walsh. There's not much [Walsh] can do there," Slater said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"He's just got to embrace the contact, make sure he doesn't hit Olam in the head, which he didn't do. I think that's a good decision."<\/p>\n

Walsh's fine was the only sanction to come from the match, despite the fact that four players were sent to the sin bin, much to the frustration of Broncos coach Kevin Walters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The MRC cleared Patrick Carrigan of any wrong-doing after he was sent to the sin-bin for a hip-drop<\/a> tackle on Nelson Asofa-Solomona.<\/p>\n
