Jofra Archer<\/a> is reportedly set to be offered a year-round, multi-million dollar deal by IPL side Mumbai Indians, that would see the ECB required to ask permission \ufeffif they wanted to pick the fast bowler for England.<\/p>\n

The Daily Mail reports that IPL<\/a> franchises are keen on introducing the all-encompassing contracts as soon as 2025.<\/p>\n

Mumbai's owners also have T20 teams in South Africa, the UAE and the United States, making the option of contracting players on year-long deals an attractive proposition.<\/p>\n

But it would create a conflict where international matches clashed with T20 franchise matches, with England having to ask permission from Mumbai to pick the 28-year-old.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Archer left the IPL to return to England to prepare for the Ashes, which starts in June. He had surgery in April on a troublesome elbow injury.<\/p>\n

In August, former Australian captain Ian Chappell told Wide World of Sports that cricket faced a real challenge dealing with the rapidly evolving T20 landscape<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"To me, the administrators had to make a decision years ago on how many forms of the game they wanted. Once you've decided that, how do you run those forms of the game so they're not cannibalising each other," he said.<\/p>\n

"This is one reason why it should have been sorted out. But the administrators have no foresight.<\/p>\n

"That's now coming back to haunt them.<\/p>\n

"If you've got a decent IPL contract and the choice is between Australia and your IPL franchise's UAE team, well are you going to put your IPL contract at risk?"<\/p>\n

Australian fans had an early taste of the conflict last summer, when Chris Lynn missed the latter stages of the BBL to take up a deal with the Gulf Giants in the UAE.<\/p>\n
