A former teammate of Michael Schumache<\/a>r says the career of his son, Mick<\/a>, must be suffering through his father's mysterious health battle.<\/p>\n

Johnny Herbert was a teammate of Schumacher at Benetton for the final two races of 1994 and then the entirety of the 1995 season – the first two of Schumacher's record seven world championships.<\/p>\n

Herbert outlined the struggle Mick had no doubt braved not having his father to guide him through his floundering Formula 1 career.<\/p>\n

"Michael Schumacher's health is also very sad for Mick. It can't be easy for Mick, because of what his dad achieved," he told Ice 36.<\/p>\n

"Being around your dad when you're younger. Then of course his dad is not there to enjoy it and guide him.<\/p>\n

"There have been a lot of people who have helped Mick over the years, but I think it is a situation that he would have loved his dad to be there for him."<\/p>\n

Little is known about Schumacher's condition – his wife Corinna has been caring for him at their mansion near Lake Geneva, Switzerland, since his skiing accident at the end of 2013.<\/p>\n

Mick made his F1<\/a> debut in 2021 but was dumped from the Haas team at the end of 2022 after racking up millions of dollars in repair bills from crashes.<\/p>\n

He is now \ufeffa reserve driver at Mercedes.<\/p>\n

Despite the hardship,\ufeff Herbert commended the young driver for handling himself "brilliantly".<\/p>\n

"He has dealt with the situation brilliantly. There was so much media attention just because of who he was and is," Herbert said.<\/p>\n

"Then the expectations of what his dad did and trying to live up to them. He was under a hell of a lot of pressure and did it get the better of him?<\/p>\n

"Maybe. Did he do enough when he was up against Kevin Magnussen [at Haas]? Probably not. That's why it didn't work out.<\/p>\n

"He never created that opportunity for himself to continue as a racer."<\/p>\n

Herbert is confident that Mick can find his way back to the grid \u2014 especially if he gets a chance to shine at a grand prix.<\/p>\n

"There is still a chance an opportunity will open up and he will get that one-off race like it did for Nyck de Vries, that might lead people to think, 'Wow'."<\/p>\n

Last week, Herbert slammed German magazine Die Aktuelle<\/a> which published a false, AI-generated interview with Schumacher<\/a> in April.<\/p>\n
