Reported player angst towards Australian coach Justin Langer is a symptom of a beaten cricket team, former Test captain Mark Taylor says.<\/p>\n

Anonymous claims of unrest in the Australian dressing room have emerged since a 2-1 Test series defeat against India on home soil.<\/p>\n

There have been claims of dissatisfaction with Langer's disciplinarian methods and supposed mood swings.<\/p>\n

Taylor said that such claims were standard fare after failed campaigns and said that Langer, who has defended his methods<\/a> and also received public backing from captain Tim Paine<\/a>, was likely dealing with only minor unrest.<\/p>\n

"I've never, ever seen any series that's lost that you think you're going to win and then there's no repercussions out of it," Taylor told Wide World of Sports Radio on Monday.<\/p>\n

"Every time a side loses a match that they should win or you think they're going to win, there's always something wrong within the camp at the end of it.<\/p>\n

"I don't read much into it. Justin Langer is a terrific fella. He is quite a disciplined coach, there's no doubt about it, and that's a lot of the discussion around this at the moment.<\/p>\n

"He'd be making them train hard and do all that sort of stuff, and that's his way. That's why he was made coach.<\/p>\n

"Does it make everyone happy? Probably not all the time but no coach is ever going to make every player happy all the time; and nor should he, or she.<\/p>\n

"When you win, there's never a problem. When you lose a series that you think you're going to win, you feel you should win, there's always a crack or two but I don't see it as a major one."<\/p>\n

Yet there has subsequently been scrutiny on Langer's reign and whether it should continue until the end of his current contract, which expires in 18 months. Former captain Michael Clarke on Monday branded the leaked complaints "weak"<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Taylor said that player power had significantly increased in modern professional sport and that the coach was too often made a scapegoat.<\/p>\n

"The interesting thing, it has changed a little bit over the years I reckon, probably in the last 10 years," Taylor said.<\/p>\n

"There's no doubt the coach is still the boss but he's often the first one sacked these days. There's no doubt about that.<\/p>\n

"The player power certainly has grown over the last decade, I reckon. Yes, they've got to do what they're asked to do by the coach but there's certainly more murmuring these days.<\/p>\n

"Media play a bigger role. Even this stuff we're reading about Justin Langer, there's more of that around now, there's more of this social media.<\/p>\n

"So there's always a few more murmurings when things aren't going well and the unfortunate thing at times, I think the coach in various codes takes too much responsibility.<\/p>\n

"I think sometimes it actually helps the players a lot if the coach goes because it takes the pressure off them. And that's not always a good thing for a team or club."<\/p>\n

The Australian Test team next plays in South Africa but the three-match tour is in doubt due to COVID-19. Taylor said that he would be surprised if the tour proceeded.<\/p>\n
