Oscar Piastri<\/a> is pushing Lando Norris<\/a> harder at McLaren<\/a> than Daniel Ricciardo<\/a> ever did, the young Brit has said.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Miami ahead of practice which got underway on Saturday morning AEST, Norris said the working relationship between himself and Piastri was similar to that with Ricciardo.<\/p>\n

After a tough debut in BahrFain, followed by a damage-compromised race in Saudi Arabia, both McLarens scored points in Australia. Norris was again in the points in Baku, with Piastri only just missing out in 11th.<\/p>\n

Norris said him providing knowledge of how the car has developed year-on-year was one of the few differences to the relationship.<\/p>\n

\"Lando<\/p>\n

"Apart from that, you both give the story of what's going on with the car and what you want from the car, which aligns very well," he said.<\/p>\n

"I wouldn't say we have the same driving style, but our comments and complaints are generally always the same. So I think that's a good thing.<\/p>\n

"He's a lovely guy, down to earth, a normal guy, a worker. So it's good fun. Different, I guess, to Daniel, I feel like a bit of a contrast of Australian [character], but still good fun.<\/p>\n

"He's very fast at the same time, so he's probably been pushing me a little bit more than in the past couple years."<\/p>\n

Max Verstappen ended the first day of practice in Miami some four tenths clear of the field.<\/p>\n

Norris was sixth, while Piastri was buried down in 16th after making a mistake on his final quick laps.<\/p>\n

After issues in its first running last year, the entire Miami circuit around the Hard Rock Stadium has been resurfaced.<\/p>\n

It caught several drivers out – Nico Hulkenberg crashed out of first practice, before Charles Leclerc ended the second session with a crash at turn eight.<\/p>\n

Piastri said it was "a reasonable day" for McLaren.<\/p>\n

"A bit of time to find after P2 but it's been a reasonable day at a new circuit for me. FP1 was incredibly slippery. A new track surface and really hot as well. It was tricky out there.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

"It seems to be really dirty off the line and it's really tricky if you miss the apex by a little bit, it costs a lot. P2 the grip was a bit better with the cooler track.<\/p>\n

"I think sector one was where I was losing a bit of time, the rest of the lap seemed to be OK. Even on my second lap I was improving quite a lot and just made a mistake. It's there in bits and pieces, I've just got to put it all together.<\/p>\n

"I think we can try get into Q3 again, it's really close at the moment. We could be anywhere from just scraping into Q3 to going out in Q1 again."<\/p>\n

Qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix will be held on Sunday morning AEST.<\/p>\n
