C\ufeffarlton<\/a> defender Nic Newman faces a nervous wait after being penalised for a "dog shot" on Brisbane<\/a> star Lachie Neale<\/a> on a night to forget for the Blues.<\/p>\n

Michael Voss' side had hopes of claiming a major scalp at Marvel Stadium after a huge win over the Eagles last week, but fell flat as the Lions ran out 15. 10. (100) to 11. 8. (74) winners at Marvel Stadium.<\/p>\n

The incident involving Newman and Neale took place during a furious Lions onslaught in the third quarter which effectively sealed Carlton's fate.<\/p>\n

Newman found himself in close quarters with the Brownlow Medal winner during a boundary throw-in, when he threw an elbow that caught Neale on the chin.<\/p>\n

Brisbane players were left livid at the incident and could be overheard on a nearby umpire's mic yelling "that's a dog shot" as they remonstrated with the Carlton defender.<\/p>\n

Neale was able to run out the remainder of the contest, a fact that may work in Newman's favour when the AFL's MRO assesses the incident.<\/p>\n

\ufeffBrisbane split the contest apart in the third quarter, kicking five goals to two behinds to put the result beyond doubt.<\/p>\n

Carlton gave a better account of itself in the final quarter, kicking five goals, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 40-point three-quarter-time deficit.<\/p>\n

\ufeffOff-season recruit Josh Dunkley was outstanding for Brisbane with 33 disposals, 13 tackles and six clearances, while Charlie Cameron and Zac Bailey kicked four goals apiece.<\/p>\n

Carlton was led by Adam Cerra, who also had 33 disposals. The Blues' twin towers, Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay were held to just a goal apiece.<\/p>\n

Brisbane will head back home to host Essendon at the Gabba in round nine, while Carlton will face the Western Bulldogs.\ufeff<\/p>\n
