Sergio Garcia<\/a> is the only defector to LIV Golf<\/a> who hasn't paid a fine imposed by the European tour for playing in the Saudi-backed competition without permission.<\/p>\n

The European tour<\/a> said that 16 of the 17 players have paid the fine of US$125,000 (AUD$186,232) for serious breaches of its conflicting tournament regulation policy.<\/p>\n

Garcia, the tour said, has not paid \u201cnor has he given any indication that he intends to".<\/p>\n

The tour said it will take \u201cappropriate action\u201d if Garcia continues to ignore the sanction.<\/p>\n

Garcia was one of four players \u2014 along with Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Richard Bland \u2014 who resigned from the European tour following last month's ruling by Sport Resolutions that a number of players committed serious breaches of the tour\u2019s code of behaviour by playing in LIV Golf events last year.<\/p>\n

With Poulter, Westwood and Garcia all resigning from the DP World Tour, the three golfers are ineligible for the prestigious Ryder Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Cup, which will begin on September 29, is an event where Garcia has produced some of his best performances, currently sitting as Europe's all-time record points scorer.<\/p>\n

European \ufeffcaptain Luke Donald was disappointed about the outcome around three of his team's best players.<\/p>\n

"It's sad we've got to this point but this was always a possibility," he told BBC Sport.<\/p>\n

"I played with all three and they've been stalwarts of, and given a lot to, both the Ryder Cup and European Tour.<\/p>\n

"It is a shame … they've got a lot of history when it comes to the Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n

"Ultimately this is their choice and I wish them well. They feel like this was the best choice for them and now I've got choices to make that are best for me."<\/p>\n

Former world number one Rory McIlroy, who has long been a staunch opponent to LIV Golf, also spoke of his disappointment.<\/p>\n

"I think it's a shame that you've got the highest points scorer ever in the Ryder Cup and two guys that when they look back on their career, that's probably going to be at least a big chunk of their legacy is the roles that they have played in the Ryder Cup for Europe," he said.<\/p>\n
