L\ufeffeading Formula 1<\/a> commentator Martin Brundle<\/a> has slammed a proposed ban on tyre warmers in the sport, saying it "doesn't make sense."<\/p>\n

In a bid to reduce electricity consumption, tyre warmers are set to be banned from 2024 as the sport becomes more environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThat means drivers will leave the pits on cold tyres, making the cars much more difficult to drive until the tyres warm up.<\/p>\n

Drivers tested tyres warmed to lower temperatures at the end of 2022, with Haas driver Kevin Magnussen labelling it "dangerous" and saying officials "don't understand" the difficulties of driving on cold tyres.<\/p>\n

The issue came to a head once again on Sunday, when the World Endurance Championship race in Belgium was marred by crashes on cold tyres.<\/p>\n

In a tweet in response to the problems faced in Belgium, Brundle hit out at the proposed F1 rule change.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"[It] doesn't make sense for F1 to ban tyre heaters," he wrote.<\/p>\n

"Cars will get crashed negating any cost savings [and] efficiencies. Drivers\/marshals at higher risk. The most expensive and inefficient way of heating racing tyres during testing, practice, qualifying and racing has to be using an F1 car."<\/p>\n

After the tests in 2022, world champion Max Verstappen<\/a> voiced his opposition to the changes.<\/p>\n

"It was not enjoyable," he said.<\/p>\n

"I think we're going to have a lot of crashes. That I know already compared to what we have at the moment.\ufeff"<\/p>\n
