T\ufeffhe NRL has banned a spectator indefinitely for racially abusing South Sydney superstar Latrell Mitchell<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mitchell was racially abused as he left the field at half-time of the round two game at Penrith's BlueBet Stadium<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The culprit was a teenager, who was identified by security and police and ejected from the game at the time.<\/p>\n

NSW Police issued a warning to the teen<\/a> following an investigation into the incident, but now the NRL has come down hard.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThe NRL confirmed today it had issued a notice intending to ban a spectator from attending NRL events until such time as the young person can establish that sufficient steps have been taken to address their behaviour," a statement on Wednesday read.<\/p>\n

"These steps will include apologising and completing appropriate training and education in respectful behaviour and cultural awareness."<\/p>\n

In a statement released after the NRL's, Penrith said the club supports the decision to ban the abuser.<\/p>\n

"Panthers will continue to work towards making all players, staff and fans feel safe and welcome at games at BlueBet Stadium," they said.\ufeff<\/p>\n

In the immediate aftermath of the \ufeffugly incident, the Rabbitohs and Panthers spoke strongly against the comments made to Mitchell.<\/p>\n

None was stronger than South Sydney coach Jason Demetriou, who called for a life ban.<\/p>\n

"It's not the first time we've come here (to Penrith) as a club and our players have been racially abused," Demetriou said.<\/p>\n

"Where does it end? It's just not on.<\/p>\n

\"Spectator<\/p>\n

"I shouldn't have to come here as a coach and lead a team of players here to be racially abused.<\/p>\n

"It's not what our game is about and we have to stamp it out completely. NRL, clubs, they have to get rid of it.<\/p>\n

"Life bans. Anyone wants to make racial abuse, get them out of the game. We don't want their support."<\/p>\n

Mitchell has previously called out racial abuse on social media, and in 2021 two men were charged for sickening comments<\/a> made to the superstar fullback.<\/p>\n
