The coaching future<\/a> of Craig Bellamy<\/a> is the never-ending storyline that's been part of the rugby league world for years and Melbourne Storm<\/a> chairman Matt Tripp<\/a> has given the latest indication of how close he is to a decision.<\/p>\n

Bellamy, who started at the Storm in 2003, has a 69 per cent win record at the club and would leave a significant hole if he chose to finish up as head coach.<\/p>\n

Former Melbourne assistant coach Jason Ryles has been discussed as a potential option if the role became vacant, however his current assistant position at the Sydney Roosters ends in 2024.<\/p>\n

With a decision needed soon from Bellamy to allow the Storm to move forward, Tripp is hopeful it will be made within the month.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I'm hoping it's is less than a month, I feel it's imminent," Tripp told SEN 1170 Afternoons<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"Craig acknowledges that the longer it goes on, the less runway we have to find a replacement and we'll never find a replacement of the great Craig Bellamy.<\/p>\n

"But we'll need as much time as we can to run a pretty comprehensive and thorough search in order to get the right person to fill the void.<\/p>\n

"He's very mindful that a decision needs to be made soon."<\/p>\n

Currently the Storm sit sixth on the NRL ladder with five wins and three losses with a side that's yet to feature injured gun Ryan Papenhuyzen.<\/p>\n

\ufeffIn its Anzac Day fixture against the Warriors, the Storm managed a second half comeback to win 30-22<\/a> before having the bye this coming round.<\/p>\n

Tripp confirmed Bellamy was visiting family in Queensland over the break, before the two plan to meet with the conversation to no doubt involve his future.<\/p>\n

"We're going to catch up later in the week, we've got a few days off after the game (against the Warriors) given we've got the bye, so we've got quite a decent break.<\/p>\n

"Probably towards the backend of this week, he and I will get together for a chat. As I said I'm living in hope that we can keep him for one more year."<\/p>\n

The Storm chairman added he was clueless as to whether Bellamy would continue.<\/p>\n

"Honestly, if you put a gun to my head and said, 'will he or won't he', I'd have to say pull the trigger, I genuinely don't know, I couldn't say," he said.<\/p>\n

"This time a month ago I thought exactly as you were saying in the media, (that) he was done, that may have softened a little bit in the last few weeks, but not to the extent that I could say with any great confidence that he'll coach on."<\/p>\n
