Many believe reigning Dally M<\/a> medallist Nicho Hynes<\/a> is a near certainty to feature for NSW this season, but Origin<\/a> legend Andrew Johns<\/a> doesn't see it the same way.<\/p>\n

The Sharks<\/a> halfback has picked up from where he left off last season\ufeff, claiming seven try assists from four games along with 11 line break assists.<\/p>\n

However, when picking his current NSW Blues<\/a> side, Johns can't find room for the star, sticking with Nathan Cleary and Jarome Luai as the halves, while Apisai Koroisau takes the 14 jersey.<\/p>\n

"W\ufeffhere are you going to play him?," he asked on Wide World of Sports' Freddy and the Eighth<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

"You pick combinations\ufeff, Jarome Luai's done it before, he's been under a bit of pressure this year but I think the holy trilogy of Jarome, Nathan (Cleary), Isaah Yeo and then you can throw in Api (Koroisau), they all know their games.<\/p>\n

"Origin's about combinations \ufeffand when the you know what hits the fan you go back to (them).<\/p>\n

"You can't even talk out there, so you go back to combinations at club level and look for them."<\/p>\n

If Hynes isn't able to replace Jarome Luai for the five-eighth spot, one position he could fill is 14.<\/p>\n

NSW used Stephen Crichton in the position for game one last year and Damien \ufeffCook during game two and game three. Hynes was 18th man for the first two matches. \ufeff<\/p>\n

And while the Sharks half can cover fullback, five-eighth and halfback, Johns believes the utility bench spot should always be for a reserve hooker at Origin level. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"For me, any Origin, you need two dummy halves, you need the yin and the yang," he said.<\/p>\n

"(Danny) Buderus (starting) and (Craig) Wing (off the bench), they were the best teams I played with at Origin level.<\/p>\n

"At the moment I've got Jarome Luai in front (for five-eighth) purely because of combinations, he's done it there before and these two know each others game and they know Isaah Yeo's game."<\/p>\n
