Leading jockey<\/a> Damien Oliver<\/a> paid an emotional tribute to his fallen colleague Dean Holland after winning a race named in his honour.<\/p>\n

Holland died on Monday at the age of 34 when he was involved in a two-horse fall at Donald<\/a>, in country Victoria.<\/p>\n

\ufeffRacing Victoria opted to postpone the Anzac Day meetings at Flemington and Moe as the industry came to grips with the tragedy.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday racing returned in the state, and Ballarat hosted the first meet since Holland's death.<\/p>\n

Oliver won the first race on the card, and then saluted in the second which was named In Honour Of Dean Holland 1400m Maiden.<\/p>\n

\ufeffVeteran hoop Oliver tragically lost his brother, Jason, who died after a race fall in Perth in 2002.<\/p>\n

Days following Jason's death, Oliver rode Media Puzzle to a famous and emotion-charged victory in the Melbourne Cup.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday he was again emotional after steering Ferlazzo to victory in the race named after his friend.<\/p>\n

"We are all going to miss him, he was a top bloke, a very popular bloke in the jockeys room," Oliver told Racing.com after the win.<\/p>\n

"Our hearts certainly go out to all his family and close friends.<\/p>\n

"We will really miss him, he's left a great mark on a lot of people.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

\"Tributes<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, trainer Matt Cumani paid a touching tribute to the jockey who'd ridden many times for him, and was booked on rides at Ballarat before his death.<\/p>\n

"Brutal for everyone, really," Cumani said.<\/p>\n

"He was very much part of this community, and has been part of my life as a trainer for a long time.<\/p>\n

"He was always part of a group of young jockeys who used to come out to Ballarat a lot and were part of the scene here.<\/p>\n

"Shocking, really. We've just got to move forward to it and race – I know our whole team will be – race in his memory for as long as we'll be racing.<\/p>\n

"He was just a really memorable guy, a really nice fella and always got on with everyone, always happy to help out.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Holland's partner Lucy and their four young children.<\/p>\n
