Jack Wighton<\/a> will leave the Raiders and join the Rabbitohs at the end of this season after signing a deal with South Sydney, instead of taking up a more lucrative deal with Canberra or Wayne Bennett's Dolphins.<\/p>\n

Nine's Danny Weidler broke the news on Tuesday, before The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a> reported that Wighton had agreed to a deal of up to four years.<\/p>\n

The Herald said Wighton informed Raiders coach Ricky Stuart and his teammates on Tuesday afternoon, four days out from their clash with the Dolphins in Canberra on Saturday.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The NRL player market was shaken up this month when it was revealed that Wighton, a $900,000-a-year gamebreaker and the 2020 Dally M Medal winner, was exploring his options.<\/p>\n

Given Latrell Mitchell's tight grip on South Sydney's No.1 jumper and the fact the brilliant Cody Walker is the side's five-eighth, Wighton is expected to play in the centres in 2024.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Brad Fittler, who's coached Wighton in State of Origin,\ufeff hailed the 30-year-old's deal with the Rabbitohs.<\/p>\n

"Anyone who gets Jack Wighton \u2014 it's going to be a good fit for them," Fittler said on Nine's NRL coverage.<\/p>\n

"You've got a bloke who's played\ufeff for Australia.<\/p>\n

"He's given away representative football to focus on winning a grand final.<\/p>\n

"He's decided South Sydney was the club where he thinks he can win a grand final, so that will give South Sydney a lot of confidence.<\/p>\n

"He's a great player … He's focused, motivated. He's a weapon."<\/p>\n

Wighton has only played in the NRL with the Raiders, where he's piled up 225 matches since debuting in 2012.\ufeff<\/p>\n
