I\ufefft was a frantic opening quarter to the traditional Anzac Day AFL<\/a> game at the MCG between old foes Essendon<\/a> and Collingwood<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And while the Bombers enjoyed a hot start – leading by 10 points at the first break – one of their stars was a little worse for wear following an ugly incident.<\/p>\n

The team was leading by a goal over the Pies and pressing deep forward, looking to extend the advantage.<\/p>\n

When an Essendon kick rocketed towards the behind section of the goals, Jye Menzie smartly fielded the ball and looked to run back infield in order to shoot for a goal.<\/p>\n

But after taking hold of the ball, and as he was pursued by Collingwood defender \ufeffTrey Ruscoe, Menzie slipped at the worst time.<\/p>\n

His misstep caused his body to be t-boned by the goalpost, leaving the Bombers forward on the turf, clutching his sternum in pain.<\/p>\n

"That was a heavy hit, wasn't it?" AFL legend Leigh Matthews said in commentary.<\/p>\n

"He looks like he's OK, but it was a heavy hit.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Luckily Menzie was able to get to his feet and continue playing.<\/p>\n

The Bombers dominated for much of the first quarter but a Jordan De Goey goal put the Pies back within reach right on the break.<\/p>\n
