Phil Gould<\/a> has made the damning claim that the hip-drop madness was "created by the NRL<\/a>" and declared a "summit" must be held to address the issue.<\/p>\n

The rugby league guru is infuriated after another two players, Brisbane's Ezra Mam and Payne Haas,\ufeff were dealt suspensions for performing what the NRL deemed to be hip-drop tackles against Parramatta on Friday night.<\/p>\n

"It's something created by the NRL itself. And \ufeffyou're not going to solve it by treating the symptoms; you've got to solve the problem. And the problem is a culmination of 25 years of chasing your tail around ruck speed and tackle techniques and wrestle techniques and refereeing and over-zealous HIA (protocols). Everything has contributed to this," Gould said on Nine's 100% Footy<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

"It's all right for the NRL to say they're going to stamp it out.<\/p>\n

"You caused it, you caused it.<\/p>\n

"Treat the problem, not the symptom.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffUnder current tackling techniques, under current HIA laws and current ruck-speed laws and the way the game is officiated, they can't back away from this.<\/p>\n

"They've created this, they've created this issue."<\/p>\n

The NRL is adamant about stamping hip-drop\ufeff tackles out of the game through sin-bins, suspensions and fines.<\/p>\n

But Gould has always argued that many of the moves players are being punished for cannot be avoided. They're simply a part of the game because of how it's evolved, the Bulldogs boss believes.<\/p>\n

At a board meeting on Wednesday, the ARL Commission will issue the NRL a "please explain" regarding the hip-drop crackdown, according to Nine's Michael Chammas.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Now … we've had weeks and weeks now of blokes getting sin-binned and blokes getting suspended and some blokes getting sent from the field," Gould added.<\/p>\n

"If it was so easy not to do, why are we seeing more and more and more of it?\ufeff Why is it that the players can't stop from doing it or it can't stop from happening? What's going on in the tackle?<\/p>\n

"There needs to be an absolute summit with some of the best coaches and some of the best minds in rugby league sitting in a room to work out how we got here. How did we get to this point where this is now more prevalent?"<\/p>\n

If "the best minds in rugby league" were to gather for the summit Gould called for, the man himself would be there.<\/p>\n

Wayne Bennett, Craig Bellamy, Trent Robinson, Andrew and Matty Johns, Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk\ufeff are also widely considered some of the sharpest figures in rugby league.<\/p>\n

"It's all a combination of tackle techniques, ruck speed, officiating, HIA," Gould said of the hip-drop dilemma.<\/p>\n

"Players are now scared to get in front of people and tackle from the front because they know they could easily get knocked out, you're going to sent to the head bin straight away and the players are so big and strong, their big legs keep pumping."<\/p>\n
