Marika Koroibete<\/a> has been awarded the John Eales Medal for his efforts across 2022 for the Wallabies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It's the second time Koroibete has won the prestigious award, having claimed the scalp in 2019.<\/p>\n

The Fiji-born winger earned 202 votes to edge out Rob Valetini (170) and Allan Alaalatoa (168).<\/p>\n

Koroibete joins George Smith, Nathan Sharpe, Michael Hooper, Israel Folau and David Pocock as players to have won the award twice or more.<\/p>\n

Such was Koroibete's prowess that he earned enough votes that he couldn't be caught even after missing the spring tour.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old was praised for his "work rate, powerful running and hard-hitting defence."<\/p>\n

The John Eales Medal comes after being voted player of the series in the three-match Test series against England in Australia, receiving the John Cadbury Plate.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the most notable moment of the year for Koroibete was when he grabbed headlines for an extraordinary try-saver against South Africa.<\/p>\n

\"Wallabies<\/p>\n

In 2022, he celebrated his 50th cap for the Wallabies and wound up as the leading ball-carrying back across the Rugby Championship for all teams.<\/p>\n

Koroibete also held the top spot for defenders beaten and offloads.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It's an honour to be awarded the 2022 John Eales Medal, especially in a season where so many players played well in the Wallabies jersey," said Koroibete.<\/p>\n

"Rugby is a team sport first and foremost, so I'd like to thank my teammates and to know they were the ones who voted for me to win this award means a lot.<\/p>\n

"It's been a dream come true to represent the Wallabies and I hope I can continue to contribute to the team in what's a massive year ahead."<\/p>\n

Koroibete was presented with the award in Japan by Wallabies general manager Chris Webb on Monday.<\/p>\n

Eales hailed the star winger's stand-out season.<\/p>\n

"Marika's consistency in attack and defence has become a feature of the Wallabies since his debut," said Eales.<\/p>\n

"He combines passion and skill in the perfect measure."<\/p>\n
