Tennis<\/a> isn't usually known as being a particularly dangerous sport for spectators, but Novak Djokovic<\/a> sent crowds in his native Serbia ducking for cover when he accidentally threw his racquet into the stands.<\/p>\n

In the first set of his historic loss to compatriot Dusan Lajovic – his first loss to a fellow Serb in 11 years – Djokovic lost control of his racquet as he made a desperate lunge across the court.<\/p>\n

It ended up well into the crowd, and a lucky punter looked as though he wanted to keep it as a souvenir before a security guard came and grabbed it off him.<\/p>\n

Lajovic won 6-4, 7-6 (6) to down Djokovic and score the biggest victory of his career.<\/p>\n

"The emotions are very mixed because I'm playing here in front of the home town and I'm also playing against Nole, who is a good friend and he's a hero of our country," he said courtside after the match.<\/p>\n

"Beating him, it's something that I didn't even think is going to be possible, but it happened."<\/p>\n

Djokovic converted only one of 16 break chances, and missed three set points in the tiebreaker.<\/p>\n

His previous loss to a fellow Serb was in 2012 to Janko Tipsarevic in Madrid.<\/p>\n

"Dusan is a fantastic person, great guy," Djokovic said. "Someone I've known for a very long time, since he started playing professional tennis.<\/p>\n

"So many times on the Davis Cup team together, trained together. I'm happy for him, to be honest. He deserved to win today."<\/p>\n

"I was many levels below what I want. Playing like that, I can't win against opponents who are so solid on this surface. But what can I do? It's simply sport. I was trying but it wasn't working.<\/p>\n

"I didn't feel very good physically on court. My legs were slow, I missed a lot of balls. I played well at times, but generally well below standard."<\/p>\n

Following his third loss of the year, Djokovic moves on to the Madrid Open next week.<\/p>\n
