Paul Gallen<\/a> has expressed his confusion over the continued officiating of the hip drop tackle after two players were sin binned in Brisbane<\/a>'s win over Parramatta<\/a>. \ufeff<\/p>\n

The hip drop saga continued in the round eight clash with J'maine Hopgood\ufeff and Ezra Mam both leaving the field for 10 minutes. Eels prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard also suffered an injury from a Payne Haas tackle that caused plenty of discussion.<\/p>\n

Speaking post-match on Nine's coverage, Gallen \ufeffwas unsure how Mam could take down a player of Matt Doorey's size in any other way.<\/p>\n

"My question is, 'What does he do different there?' That's the question I have," he said.<\/p>\n

"These hip-drop tackles … I do think they're accidental, I don't think there's any malice in them anymore.<\/p>\n

"I think there may have been one day … where teams maybe did train for them. I personally have never seen anyone train for them. I think a lot of them are instinctive now.<\/p>\n

"That's a big man punching into a hole, a halfback's trying to tackle him, he's just trying to bring him down any way he can. So, they are very instinctive. But man, they are hard to handle at the moment."<\/p>\n

Broncos lock Patrick Carrigan was given a four-match ban<\/a> for a hip drop on Jackson Hastings last year that seriously injured the former Wests Tigers halfback.<\/p>\n

Post-match, Carrigan admitted to his own problems with the tackle but said there was a "fine line".<\/p>\n

"\ufeffTo be honest I think sometimes we get it wrong, I got it wrong last year and paid the consequences so I think it's a fine line and we don't want it in the game," he told Nine.<\/p>\n

"I think some of them are a bit tough, we play a game that's flat out and sometimes big boys are hard to bring down.<\/p>\n

"I don't think boys intentionally mean it, we don't want any of our players in any of the code missing out on footy games, I think it's something we've got to get better on but it's a tough line for officials but I think sometimes they're (players) pretty hard done by.<\/p>\n

"I don't think there's any malice in those sort of tackles, there's mostly good guys on an NRL field and I don't think they're trying to hurt anyone."<\/p>\n
