Tony Kanaan is fully prepared for the waterworks that will come when his name is announced for the final time at this year's Indianapolis 500<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 2004 IndyCar Series<\/a> winner and 2013 Indianapolis 500 winner has called time on his storied career which will come to a close on May 29 at the Brickyard.<\/p>\n

Kanaan, or TK, is a favourite among fans. The 48-year-old was voted the series' most popular driver in 2013.<\/p>\n

Stan Sport is the only place to watch the 2023 IndyCar Series, featuring Will Power, Scott McLaughlin and Scott Dixon.<\/strong><\/em> All the action streaming ad free, live and on demand<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

As his retirement looms, every moment spent in the car at 350km\/h is cherished.<\/p>\n

"You think you miss it until you drive the car, then you realise you really miss it," said Kanaan.<\/p>\n

"My decision is made, so I might as well enjoy the next 40-plus days and realise that's the end of a great, great career and that's it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"From now on, it's going to be emotional every day, one way or another. It's going to be emotional from driver's intro to the chequered flag, but I'm fine with it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I'm going to try and enjoy as much as I can.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We ran great this morning as far as not having any issues. The whole crew is still getting together, working on the car, so we're not too worried about speed right now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It was, for the first time, probably I realised this is it."<\/p>\n

Kanaan wound up 15th on day one of testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway ahead of next month's showpiece event.<\/p>\n

His McLaren teammates Pato O'Ward, Felix Rosenqvist, and Alexander Rossi were ninth, 20th, and 22nd respectively.<\/p>\n

Kanaan said the emotions hit him in waves, but the biggest is yet to come when race day arrives.<\/p>\n

"It hits on and off, but today it hit pretty hard, so we'll see," he explained.<\/p>\n

"On and off, people are approaching me saying 'great career, sad to see you go' but when I get up there \u2013 and I'm not bragging, you guys know how this place makes me feel\u2013 the people are probably going to cheer even louder because they know it's my last one.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I'm going to lose it, for sure."<\/p>\n

The 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 takes place on May 29, with live, ad-free coverage exclusively on Stan Sport.<\/p>\n
