Australian LIV Golf<\/a> rebel Matt Jones<\/a> believes some PGA Tour<\/a> players are "bitter and jealous" because they haven't been invited to defect.<\/p>\n

\ufeffJones is back on home soil this week for LIV's first major event Down Under.<\/p>\n

The controversial Saudi-backed \ufefforganisation lands in Adelaide for a three-day tournament beginning on Friday.<\/p>\n

And while there is sure to be much celebration and fanfare\ufeff in the South Australian capital, the breakaway league remains locked in an ugly feud with America's elite professional tour.<\/p>\n

Staunch PGA Tour loyalists, led by Irish champion Rory McIlory, have spoken out against their former colleagues who have taken the Saudi cash to jump ship.<\/p>\n

"I was on the tables in the therapy room with Rory (McIlroy) and (Billy) Horschel when my name come out during that tournament," Jones, 42, told The Sydney Morning Herald ahead of this week's event.<\/p>\n

"They were fine. They understand for a lot of guys, 'Why wouldn't you?' – I don't have the money and contracts those guys do. It made sense for me.<\/p>\n

"Not one person I know was being critical, they might have been a little upset or jealous. I think there's a lot of that.<\/p>\n

"Maybe they didn't get contacted or a chance to do it – and then they were bitter and jealous.<\/p>\n

"In hindsight, they've got nothing to worry about because of the purses they're playing for (in the PGA Tour's elevated events)."<\/p>\n

Jones is part of an all-Aussie LIV team, led by reigning British Open winner Cameron Smith and also featuring Marc Leishman and Jed Morgan.<\/p>\n

Their team, Ripper GC, will no doubt be the popular pick among fans at Adelaide this week.<\/p>\n

It will be the biggest professional golf tournament – in terms of the profile of competitors – on Aussie shores in many years.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"I think it's probably one of the best fields, if not the best field, Australia has ever seen," Jones told the Herald.<\/p>\n

"That would even be going back to the Jack (Nicklaus) and Greg (Norman) days. When you have the list of major winners and tournament winners out here, it's pretty impressive.<\/p>\n

"Everyone is pumped. I can't explain how excited everyone is to be coming to Australia – and I'm not just saying that to blow smoke.<\/p>\n

"It would be unbelievable for us to win, but more so for the team to win rather than an individual."<\/p>\n
