A club rule that a new coach must have unanimous approval from the board before being signed is likely to keep Shane Flanagan<\/a> away from the Dragons<\/a> coaching role.<\/p>\n

Flanagan's name has been linked to the job in recent days, as speculation on current Dragons coach Anthony Griffin<\/a>'s future continues.<\/p>\n

A board meeting at Dragons HQ on Tuesday morning is expected to shed some light on Griffin's fate.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Linked to the job have been Des Hasler<\/a>, current Roosters assistant and former Dragon Jason Ryles, Cowboys assistant Dean Young, and Billy Slater<\/a> – although Slater said any discussions had not made their way to him<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"Y\ufeffeah (it's a) little bit strange, first I heard of it was the reports in the media as well, so look whether the Dragons have made contact with my management I'm not too sure, but it certainly didn't get through to me," he said on the Billy Slater Podcast<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Flanagan spent several seasons in charge of the Dragons list management while also juggling several media roles. He took up an assistant role under Anthony Seibold at Manly earlier this year.<\/p>\n

While he insisted it would be "no skin off my nose" if he didn't get the job, he indicated he could be interested.<\/p>\n

"Every time there's a position available, my name gets thrown up," he said on 2GB's Wide World of Sports Radio on Monday evening.<\/p>\n

"Obviously, I love coaching. I'm in a really good place at the moment. I love doing what I'm doing at Manly, I work really well with Anthony Seibold and all the other coaches. I love the playing group.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"So I'll just battle on. If they want to contact me and I'm on that list, we'll see what happens from there."<\/p>\n

But according to Danny Weidler, Flanagan is long odds to sign on at Kogarah, given the club's unanimous decision policy.<\/p>\n

"There's a push on for Shane Flanagan to be the Dragons coach, (but) there is opposition on the board for Shane Flanagan, so I think that'd be very hard for that to happen," Weidler said on Nine's 100% Footy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"Peter Doust, one of the board members is well known to be against the idea of Flanagan, so I think that will probably weigh heavily against him.<\/p>\n

"There is some indication there would be an appetite \u2026 for a Des Hasler-Ben Hornby combination, the experienced coach bringing in a younger coach, like we've seen in other clubs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"NRL<\/p>\n

"Jason Ryles has started to talk to the Roosters about a potential release, but the Roosters aren't going to go easily on that one. Eventually they'll probably release him, and I think Melbourne might be the destination.<\/p>\n

"The obvious thing is that I don't think there's any real indication there of any love anymore for Anthony Griffin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I think the Dragons have pretty much made their mind up on that."<\/p>\n

Weidler said he believed it unlikely the Dragons would punt Griffin mid-year, but also wouldn't stand in his way should he wish to do so.<\/p>\n

"I have not heard that from anyone at the club that they've said to Anthony Griffin 'go now'," he said.<\/p>\n

"I think that might be a decision that Griffin makes."<\/p>\n
