Victorian Sports Minister Martin Pakula has revealed the state's Chief Health Officer has given approval for crowds of up to 30,000 to attend next month's Australian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A crowd of up to 30,000 per day will be permitted for the first eight days of the tournament, with the final six days to be capped at 25,000.<\/p>\n

The final six days will see 12,500 allowed for the day session while 12,500 will be welcomed in for the night session.<\/p>\n

The crowd capacity for this year's event will be around half the total of what's been permitted in previous years at Melbourne Park.<\/p>\n

"That means Rod Laver Arena, as we get towards the end of the tournament, will have an incredible atmosphere," Mr Pakula said.<\/p>\n

"Not that much different of an atmosphere as we've seen in all the Opens in the years past.<\/p>\n

"That's a testament to the work Victorians have done to get our [coronavirus] numbers to zero.<\/p>\n

"But also, the extraordinary work Craig [Tiley] and the team at Tennis Australia have done.<\/p>\n

"It will not be the same as the last few years but it will be the most significant international event with crowds the world has seen for many months."<\/p>\n
