Melbourne midfielder Jack Viney is set to miss the next fortnight of training after undergoing surgery on his left foot.<\/p>\n

The Demons vice-captain yesterday required surgery on his plantar fascia but didn't stay in hospital overnight.<\/p>\n

Melbourne footy boss Alan Richardson gave details of Viney's setback on the club's website.<\/p>\n

"Jack had some lingering soreness in his foot which has caused some discomfort and we decided that it was best to treat this now prior to the season commencing," Richardson said.<\/p>\n

"The plan is for Jack to commence off-legs conditioning on Monday, with the aim to be back running in approximately two weeks.<\/p>\n

"We are confident that this minor setback won't impact Jack's ability to be ready to go for the start of our season."<\/p>\n

Viney was re-elected as vice-captain for the 2021 season, with star ruckman Max Gawn set to skipper the Demons for a second-straight season.<\/p>\n

Viney won the club's best-and-fairest award, the Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Trophy, in 2016, and co-captained Melbourne across the 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons.<\/p>\n
