Cricket's controversial Mankad has once again divided opinion after a failed attempt in the Indian Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Lucknow Super Giants were chasing down 213 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and needed one run from the final ball when the chaos kicked off.<\/p>\n

Harshal Patel was bowling to Avesh Khan, with the scores locked at 212 when non-striker Ravi Bishnoi sprinted out of his crease.<\/p>\n

Patel swiftly turned around and threw down the stumps. Before it could even be reviewed, the umpire called a dead ball.<\/p>\n

Under cricket's rules, the bowler cannot throw down the stumps after attempting to run the non-striker out.<\/p>\n

Khan missed the final ball of the match, which went through to the keeper who fumbled it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Khan made it to the other end for the run, throwing his helmet down in celebration as the Super Giants took victory by one run.<\/p>\n

That drew the ire of IPL match officials, and Khan was reprimanded for breaching the code of conduct.<\/p>\n

Marcus Stoinis top scored for the Super Giants, making 65 (30). Glenn Maxwell made 59 (29) in a scorching knock for the Challengers, combining with Faf du Plessis' 79 not out and Virat Kohli's 61 to set a monster target.<\/p>\n

Yet the huge tally of 212 wasn't enough.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Even before the Mankad attempt at the death there was a crazy twist in the run chase, with Ayush Badoni dismissed for hitting his own wicket after hitting a ramp shot over the boundary for what should have been a six.<\/p>\n

Badoni was substituted in for the run chase, replacing Amit Mishra, and coming in at number seven.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With seven runs to win and nine balls remaining, Badoni walked across his wickets and scooped the ball into the air towards the fine leg boundary.<\/p>\n

The ball carried all the way for a maximum, but it was RCB who were celebrating as Badoni's bat brushed the wicket and knocked off the bails.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old stood still in disbelief.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Badoni's mistake didn't matter in the end as the Super Giants chased down the total in dramatic circumstances.<\/p>\n
