Just being able to drive with his grandson was an achievement in itself for Tony Quinn, but winning the Bathurst 6 Hour<\/a> by a mere 0.09s was the cherry on top.<\/p>\n

It was an extraordinary finish to the race that saw third-generation racer Ryder Quinn pass the Class A2 leading Ford Mustang around the outside at the final corner.<\/p>\n

It was heartbreak for the Delfsma\/Casha\/Gray entry and ecstasy for the Quinns, who were joined by television personality Grant Denyer in a Ford Mustang of their own.<\/p>\n

Stan Sport is the only place to watch the 2023 SpeedSeries.<\/strong><\/em> All the action streaming ad-free, live and on demand<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

There were fears the trio might never race together after Quinn's enormous crash in the streets of Townsville that left the motorsport mogul bedridden<\/a> and littered with injuries.<\/p>\n

Eight months on, albeit still aided by a walking stick, Quinn was able to contest Bathurst's biggest endurance race, which featured nearly 60 cars.<\/p>\n

"It was awesome," Ryder told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

"The pace all weekend has been great, but more than that, to do it with such a great team and Pop Eye and Grant \u2013 words can't describe it, seriously.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I'm so happy. Happy for the team, happy for everything, happy for everyone and to do it on the last lap at the last corner around the outside, mate! I shouldn't say this, but it was a bee's dick to the finish. It was wild!<\/p>\n

"There was quite a lot of lapped traffic in between the leader and myself, but I just went balls to the wall, full aggressive, and then got the run out of the Chase and then dummied him a little bit. Then the rest is history."<\/p>\n

Quinn Sr didn't realise the team had won their class until the team started celebrating.<\/p>\n

"Proud, all those words you can think up," Tony said.<\/p>\n

"It's been a long time coming as we said inside. He's come to the Nurburgring, He's (Ryder) been to a lot of places when he was young in nappies and with the big ear muffs on.<\/p>\n

"So he's been around racing for a while and hopefully he enjoys it. That's the main thing as long as he enjoys it\u2026 because he's not getting paid," he laughed.<\/p>\n

For Denyer, the win was one to savour.<\/p>\n

The television personality has had a connection with the family since his back-breaking monster truck crash.<\/p>\n

Quinn offered Denyer an opportunity to race with him after the 2008 incident and has been one of his honorary sons since.<\/p>\n

"It's just special to see the two generations of the Quinn family," said Denyer.<\/p>\n

"Tony told me in 2008, he just wants to keep racing until he can race with his grandson and he did that today and they finished first.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"That's a really beautiful family moment that I was very lucky to be the third wheel on. A good bit of history."<\/p>\n
