In an indication of his precocious ability, Sydney Roosters teen Joseph Suaalii<\/a> has landed a spot in New South Wales' Emerging Blues squad despite being too young to legally make his NRL debut<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 17-year-old is one of 29 players set to gather at the NSWRL Centre of Excellence in Sydney tomorrow and be greeted by Blues coach Brad Fittler.<\/p>\n

A bidding war for Suaalii was eventually settled when the fullback overlooked the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Rugby Australia to sign a two-year deal with the Roosters early in December<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His selection for the Emerging Blues squad has placed him alongside Newcastle's Jacob Saifiti, Canterbury's Kyle Flanagan, Penrith's Tyrone May and a host of other promising youngsters.<\/p>\n

\"Joseph<\/p>\n

"It's fair to say there's genuine excitement about Joseph Suaalii," NSW chief Dave Trodden told the Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"You don't want to put too much pressure on young guys, but a lot of people are anticipating what might be with Joseph's career.<\/p>\n

"Our selectors identify people across a whole spectrum of age groups who have the potential to be Origin players.<\/p>\n

"Anyone who has seen anything of Joseph – it's easy to understand why our coaching staff believe he has the potential to go on and have a representative career.<\/p>\n

"It's also introducing him to NSWRL, which would have normally happened last year through our junior representative camps had it not been for COVID."<\/p>\n

Only players based in NSW and the ACT were considered for squad selection, given state COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n
