Spinner Matthew Kuhnemann<\/a> has been left off Cricket Australia<\/a>'s national contracts list despite playing a key role in Australia's sole Test win in India this year.<\/p>\n

Kuhnemann was handed his Test debut in India<\/a> \ufeffand played in three of the four Tests in the series, picking up nine wickets at an average of 31.11.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old \ufeffplayed a vital role in Australia's nine-wicket win in the third Test in Indore, with his 5-16 helping roll India for just 109 on the first day.<\/p>\n

However, with no subcontinent tours on the horizon, the left-armer has been left off the contracts list for the 2023-24 season, with Nathan Lyon<\/a>, Ashton Agar, Todd Murphy and Adam Zampa the spinners chosen.<\/p>\n

The national contract is the first of Murphy's career after an impressive tour of India, with Sean Abbott, Lance Morris, Michael Neser and Jhye Richardson also joining him on the list.<\/p>\n

\ufeffVictorian opener Marcus Harris was also included after a strong domestic season, with Peter Handscomb and Matthew Renshaw the other players to miss out from the recently-completed India tour.<\/p>\n

"We have chosen a group of players we expect will form the majority of those (WTC, Ashes and ODI World Cup) campaigns and we know that we will need a squad mentality to achieve success," Australia's chairman of selectors, George Bailey, said in a statement.<\/p>\n

"As we find each year now, there is a lot of cricket in the next six to 12 months and our depth will be tested.<\/p>\n

"The six Test matches during the winter are in relatively short succession and we have a busy period of white ball cricket leading up to, and post, the ODI World Cup.<\/p>\n

"The NSP support and endorse the change to the MOU agreement which allows further scope for additional contracts which in turn creates additional depth to call on in the next period, as well as retaining the ability to utilise others from outside of this list."<\/p>\n

Matthew Wade, who has been a mainstay in Australia's white ball teams, is also the other major omission ahead of next year's T20 World Cup.<\/p>\n

Australia's next Test assignment will be in England for the World Test Championship final and the Ashes, before hosting Pakistan and the West Indies in its home summer.<\/p>\n
