Another huge weekend of Super Rugby Pacific is in the books alongside our first Wallabies squad of 2023.<\/a><\/p>\n

GIVE 'EM THE SLIPPER<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ageless Brumbies prop James Slipper picked up an unexpected pair of tries in the win against the Waratahs to the amazement of everyone at the ground and watching the broadcast.<\/p>\n

For context, it took Slips 100 Tests to score ONE try in Wallabies colours.<\/p>\n

On the Super Rugby front, the incumbent Test captain went into Saturday's game having scored just six tries in 162 appearances.<\/p>\n

His score on half time was one to make props worldwide giddy, charging onto a short ball from 15m out to touch down under the crossbar.<\/p>\n

Slipper kept us smiling in the post-game when chased down by producer Ellie to join the Nine and Stan Sport panel.<\/p>\n

"Is this what you have to do to get on one of these? I've never done one before… it's my first time here," the veteran laughed.<\/p>\n

RIVALRY ALIVE AND KICKING<\/strong><\/p>\n

A quick look back over every result between the Brums and Tahs tells us that Saturday's 40-34 belter was the highest scoring game ever posted in their 27 year rivalry.<\/p>\n

Highest. Ever.<\/p>\n

The game had everything – the promise of free beer for Tahs fans if they won<\/a>, incredible tries, bone rattling hits – Wallabies proving themselves and a decent crowd to go with it.<\/p>\n

On that note, congratulations to Brumbies chairman Matt Nobbs for stoking the derby fires in the lead up by challenging NSW fans to support their team.<\/p>\n

The offer of free brewskis to the visiting supporters got plenty of people talking last week and in turn we were gifted the game of the season.<\/p>\n

A WEEK IN WONDERLAND<\/strong><\/p>\n

We mentioned this in coverage throughout the game in Canberra and it's worth repeating again.<\/p>\n

Get this for a seven day stretch for Brumbies centre Len Ikitau.<\/p>\n

1) Welcomed the arrival of his son Lennox with wife Sammie.<\/p>\n

2) Celebrated his own birthday.<\/p>\n

3) Re-signed with Rugby Australia.<\/a><\/p>\n

4) Made the try saver of the year AND scored a try of his own against the Waratahs.<\/p>\n

\"Zach<\/p>\n

ZACH ATTACK<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Western Force look to have picked up a legit finisher in the form of Englishman Zach Kibirige.<\/p>\n

The 28-year old became available following the collapse of his premiership club Wasps and he's looked great since touching down in Perth.<\/p>\n

A schoolboys star and former England under-20s rep, Kibirige has crossed the line three weeks running for the Force on their never-ending tour of New Zealand.<\/p>\n

\"Eddie<\/p>\n

TRUCKING IT UP<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eddie Jones' Wallabies squad announcement was full of selection shocks along with a trademark one liner from the boss.<\/p>\n

When pressed on Rory Arnold being overlooked, the boss offered up this.<\/a><\/p>\n

"I think he's working on the factory line at Hino isn't he? I think he's making those trucks, because he's not playing rugby at the moment. To get selected you have to play rugby, you have to play rugby, we don't pick blokes who make Hino trucks."<\/p>\n

Already looking forward to the Bledisloe where Eddie can ping a few more gems in the direction of the All Blacks camp.<\/p>\n

CLAP FOR THE VIKINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sending a huge congratulations down the Hume to Adam Vinning and the Tuggeranong Vikings Juniors who played out their annual Gala day at Gowrie Oval on the weekend.<\/p>\n

Over 84 teams went their hardest across both days, with the age groups ranging from Under 7s up 16s, girls AND boys, it was enormous.<\/p>\n
