UPDATE:<\/strong> Melbourne<\/a> captain Max Gawn<\/a> is set to miss four to six weeks after scans determined that he'd avoided an ACL tear.<\/p>\n

There were fears that the 31-year-old's season could be over prematurely when he limped off the Gabba on Friday night after teammate Jack Viney fell into his left leg.<\/p>\n

However, scans determined that Gawn had injured his medial collateral ligament as opposed to his ACL.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffMax had scans which show a moderate-grade medial ligament injury and at this stage, we expect him to be available in four to six weeks," Demons football boss Alan Richardson told Melbourne Media<\/em> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

"Max has seen a knee specialist and is working with our medical and high-performance team to determine the best return to play rehabilitation program."<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old was soon substituted out of the match permanently, with Jake Melksham replacing him.<\/p>\n

Gawn was pictured looking shattered with his left knee iced up in the Demons changerooms shortly after he was subbed out of the game, initially prompting fears that he'd suffered a season-ending blow.<\/p>\n

The six-time All-Australian ruckman is no stranger to knee injuries after having his TAC Cup campaign ruined by an ACL tear in his draft year.<\/p>\n

\ufeffGawn's 2012 season was also ruined by a meniscus and ACL tear before he required a third knee surgery in 2014.<\/p>\n
