Controversial US star Tennys Sandgren is leading the howls of outrage as frustrated Australian Open players learn their hotel lockdown is to be extended.<\/p>\n

Some players will be released from quarantine on Thursday evening but others have been told by authorities that they will have to stay put beyond 14 days.<\/p>\n

Nine newspapers reported that the process<\/a> of releasing all 960 Australian Open players and staff is expected to take until as late as Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

"Departure dates and numbers may be subject to change," a statement from COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria said.<\/p>\n

Sandgren, who has previously tested positive for COVID-19<\/a>, vented his fury on Instagram while riding an exercise bike.<\/p>\n

"I just found out we're not going to be able to leave the room till midnight which will put us at close to 15 days in this room," Sandgren said.<\/p>\n

"It's also another day we can't practice.<\/p>\n

"That's play Saturday, Sunday, Monday and play a match Tuesday – a match, a competitive tennis match.<\/p>\n

"After 16 days off we get three days hitting and then a tennis match.<\/p>\n

"My name's Tennis Australia and I'm soooooooo cool."<\/p>\n

Georgia's Oksana Kalashnikova also expressed frustration on Twitter.<\/p>\n

Players and staff in quarantine have been tested daily and must be asymptomatic, in order to leave the hotel.<\/p>\n

Spanish player Paula Badosa is the only player who has tested positive.<\/a><\/p>\n

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said departing players would be "treated no different to anyone else going through the hotel quarantine system."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
