Tennis icon Serena Williams has described Australia's COVID-19 quarantine rules as "insane and super intense" while also endorsing the hardline approach.<\/p>\n

Williams, 39, was interviewed on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/em> as she nears the end of her 14 day hotel quarantine in Adelaide.<\/p>\n

The American superstar will taken on Naomi Osaka in an exhibition match in Adelaide on Friday.<\/p>\n

"It's super, super strict, but it's really good," Williams told Colbert.<\/p>\n

"So, Australia right now has, the last I heard, zero cases of COVID.<\/p>\n

\"Serena<\/p>\n

"So that is unbelievable, right, the whole country? That is really amazing.<\/p>\n

"So when we come here in Australia, everyone has to quarantine in a room for 14 days.<\/p>\n

"It's insane and super intense but it's super good because after that you can have a new normal like we were used to this time last year in the United States."<\/p>\n

Williams has been living in an Adelaide hotel with her three-year-old daughter Olympia.<\/p>\n

The Australian Open's biggest names have been quarantining in Adelaide<\/a>, with the lesser lights in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

That has raised accusations of preferential treatment, a charge tournament boss Craig Tiley did not shy away from.<\/a><\/p>\n

"They're doing it right," Williams said.<\/p>\n

"It's definitely hard with a three-year-old to be in the hotel all day, but it's worth it because you want everyone to be safe at the end of the day."<\/p>\n
