SpeedSeries<\/a> racer Ben Grice has made the most of his chance to roast his rivals, opening old wounds a year on from a questionable move.<\/p>\n

In 2022, controversy erupted when allegations of cheating broke out in the National Trans Am Series<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some teams were found to be loosening parts of the roof structure \u2013 a move which was subsequently banned<\/a> \u2013 allowing it to cave and thus reduce aerodynamic drag.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Stan Sport is the only place to watch the 2023 SpeedSeries.<\/strong><\/em> All the action streaming ad-free, live and on demand<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

The discovery was made at the season-opener at Symmons Plains but didn't come to a head until midway through the year at Queensland Raceway.<\/p>\n

In the wake of that controversy, Grice offered fans three percent off merchandise when using the code "ROOFDEFLECTION" on his website.<\/p>\n

Grice doubled down on the cheeky remark, taking his chance to take a shot at his rivals following qualifying at the first SpeedSeries round of the year at Symmons Plains.<\/p>\n

"Yeah, whack! What a pisser. I fairly sent her in there," said Grice, who took pole position for the first race of the year.<\/p>\n

"A big thank (to the team), I'm really proud. Look, it's just nice to be on pole without a floppy roof.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"So cop that."<\/p>\n

It was a case of winding back the clock in Tasmania as Grice led James Moffat in qualifying.<\/p>\n

Their fathers, Allan Grice and Allan Moffat, were stalwarts of the Australian Touring Car Championship in the 1970s, '80s, and '90s.<\/p>\n

Grice twice won the Bathurst 1000 in 1985 and 1990 while Moffat won it outright four times in 1970, 1971, 1973 and 1977.<\/p>\n

"It is pretty cool," Grice Jr said of their family legacy continuing.<\/p>\n

Grice ultimately couldn't keep his pole position, losing the lead to Moffat off the start of the race. Tim Slade was the big mover, climbing from seventh to third.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The opening SpeedSeries round of place on February 24-26 at Symmons Plains.<\/p>\n
