Shane Warne spared little time to cool off after his extraordinarily heated rant about Nathan Lyon's field placements on the final day of the epic Brisbane Test<\/a>, launching into another verbal onslaught during tonight's BBL clash between the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers.<\/p>\n

Warne ripped into the Australian off-spinner for not employing a silly point when Cheteshwar Pujara was on strike during the opening session of the fifth day, especially because that field placement had paid off against India's rock in the first Test.<\/p>\n

Warne then unleashed another astounding barrage of words about the Sixers' bowling tactics to box-office Stars batsman Glenn Maxwell tonight at the MCG.<\/p>\n

While the legendary leg-spinner must have been delighted to see Maxwell fire for his beloved club – he played for the Stars throughout the first three seasons of BBL history – the Sixers' refusal to bowl wide yorkers outside off left him baffled.<\/p>\n

"The only thing we've seen Maxwell do is back away from the leg side and give himself room so he's open. So the bowler should be bowling wide of off stump, full yorker, he can't reach it," Warne said on Fox Cricket's coverage.<\/p>\n

"So the plan for the bowlers should be, 'If Maxwell gets in and he starts in this form, let's switch to plan B, which is wide yorkers'.<\/p>\n

"Now why haven't they tried that? I don't understand. Go over the wicket, bowl wide yorkers out there. Maxwell backs away to leg side and he can't reach it out there.<\/p>\n

"You set your fielders at third man and deep point and he might even hole out down there.<\/p>\n

"You can't just keep bowling on a length and hope he miss-hits one."<\/p>\n

The Stars' mission was clear-cut as they took to their last regular-season match.<\/p>\n

Having received an enormous favour from cross-city rivals the Melbourne Renegades, who had beaten the Hobart Hurricanes earlier in the day, the Stars simply had to earn all four points against the Sixers to steal a finals berth.<\/p>\n

Teams are rewarded three points for a win as well as a Bash Boost point if they're ahead at the halfway mark of the chasing side's innings.<\/p>\n

Maxwell put the Stars in a terrific position with an innings of 66 runs off just 41 balls, a knock streaked with nine fours and a six.<\/p>\n

But the Melbourne franchise failed to clinch a finals berth as the Sixers grabbed tonight's Bash Boost point.<\/p>\n
