The NRL will ask the federal government if players can be given priority in the coronavirus vaccine queue.<\/p>\n

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the NRL<\/a> would put a case to the government for players to vaccinated after health workers and other at-risk individuals, to give the New Zealand Warriors a better chance of hosting games across the ditch in 2021.<\/p>\n

"Emergency workers have got to get it first and the most vulnerable have got to get it first," ARL Commissioner Peter V'landys said.<\/p>\n

"Who is after that? Well, that's where we come in.<\/p>\n

\"NRL<\/p>\n

"Under no circumstances are we going to jump the gun and go before emergency workers and the most vulnerable.<\/p>\n

"But after that, there's naturally some discussions to be had, to be on that list relatively high."<\/p>\n

Cricket Australia officials enquired about vaccine timelines and priorities ahead of next month's tour of South Africa, a COVID-19 hotspot.<\/p>\n

That request met widespread backlash<\/a>, construed as an attempt to queue-jump – a charge that CA denied.<\/p>\n

"I understand what Cricket Australia is trying to do, they're trying to go for a tour, and naturally, they want to protect the health of their players so I've got nothing against what they've tried to do," V'landys said.<\/p>\n

"We want Australian players going over to New Zealand as well."<\/p>\n

The Warriors spent the 2020 season based in Australia and away from their families.<\/p>\n

They are doing the same this year but the NRL hope they can return to New Zealand to host Manly in Auckland in round five.<\/p>\n
