Sydney Sixers star Sean Abbott would prefer to ride the pine with the Australian Test team in South Africa than play for the national T20 side in New Zealand.<\/p>\n

Like it or loathe it, a modern reality of international cricket's jam-packed schedule is that two teams from the same country can be playing games at the same time.<\/p>\n

That is due to happen again for Australia as its T20 side tours New Zealand for five games in February-March<\/a> while the Test team is tentatively set for three Tests in South Africa in March.<\/p>\n

Pace bowling all-rounder Abbott was a non-playing member of Australia's Test squad for the epic home series against India.<\/p>\n

\"English<\/p>\n

If not picked for the South Africa tour he would be a shoo-in for the T20 series as a consistently strong BBL performer.<\/p>\n

"The dream is always to play Test cricket and I can't play Test cricket if I'm in New Zealand so would definitely prefer to be going to South Africa with the chance of playing Test cricket," Abbott told reporters.<\/p>\n

"The bowling attack we have at the minute is pretty unbelievable, so hopefully selection goes well and I'm on one or the other."<\/p>\n

Abbott added that he would happily receive a COVID-19 vaccine and tour South Africa<\/a> despite its massive troubles in containing the virus.<\/p>\n

"If the doctor tells me it's all safe and I need to get it to go and play Test cricket, that's fine," Abbott said.<\/p>\n

"I'll obviously run it past my girlfriend to make sure she is OK with it as well.<\/p>\n

"They wouldn't send us over there unless they were 100 per cent certain they could keep us safe."<\/p>\n

Australian Cricketers' Association chairman Greg Dyer believed most players would be of the same mind as Abbott.<\/p>\n

"I don't believe people will be looking for the easy route of T20 in New Zealand rather than a Test tour," Dyer said.<\/p>\n

"They still want to play Test cricket.<\/p>\n

"They recognise that they have a responsibility to the game, which actually transcends borders.<\/p>\n

"And they will need to potentially travel internationally in order to make good those responsibilities.<\/p>\n

"We're all on the same page in this.<\/p>\n
