A\ufefflyssa Healy<\/a> and Ash Gardner have played starring roles as Australia<\/a> got its T20 World Cup<\/a> campaign off to a flyer with a crushing win over New Zealand<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Australia has won the last two editions of the tournament, and five of the last six, and showed it will be a force to be reckoned with once again in the 97-run win. <\/p>\n

New Zealand won the toss and inserted the Aussies in, only to be met with a blitz from Healy (55 off 38), Aussie captain Meg Lanning<\/a> (41 off 33) and Ellyse Perry<\/a> (40 off 22), as the reigning champions posted 9-173 in its 20 overs.<\/p>\n

The run chase was over before it began, with Megan Schutt removing New Zealand's opening pair of Suzie Bates and captain Sophie Devine in her first over. <\/p>\n

New Zealand briefly rebuilt, but never really threatened the mammoth Australian total, before Gardner wrecked the run chase.<\/p>\n

The star all-rounder ran through New Zealand's middle and lower order, finishing with incredible figures of 5-12 off her three overs as the Kiwis were rolled for just 76. She was named the Player of the Match for her spell.<\/p>\n

\ufeffGardner's spell gave her the record for the best bowling figures for an Australian woman in T20s played outside of Australia, surpassing Julie Hunter's 5-22 against the West Indies in 2012.<\/p>\n

Australia will next be in action when it faces Bangladesh in a Group A clash on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
