Newly-minted Australian Cricketers' Association CEO Todd Greenberg<\/a> says cricketers should not receive priority ahead of health workers for the COVID-19 vaccine.<\/p>\n

Speaking after reports suggested that Cricket Australia's chief medical officer John Orchard had written to the nation's chief medical officer regarding early access to vaccines, Greenberg echoed cricket's player union chair Greg Dyer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"I'm not sure any athlete, whether they're cricketers or else, deserve to be at the front of the queue ahead of healthcare workers and those who need it most," he told 2GB's Wide World of Sports Radio.<\/em><\/p>\n

"I think it is a bad look for athletes to be looking for that. It is a sensible and reasonable outcome to say that we should all wait our turn and those who need it most should go first."<\/p>\n

Despite the reports regarding its correspondence with Australia's chief medical officer about the vaccine, Cricket Australia has denied that it had lodged a formal request.<\/p>\n

"The Australian men's cricket team is scheduled to tour South Africa in February," Orchard said in a CA statement.<\/p>\n

"Accordingly, Cricket Australia has sought the advice of the Australian government to ensure the squad's safe passage to and from South Africa.<\/p>\n

"As part of those discussions, CA has requested clarification on whether the Government's timeline on COVID-19 vaccinations aligns with the Australian team's travel to South Africa."<\/p>\n
