<\/p>\nTeenaged leg-spin sensation Tanveer Sangha headlines Ricky Ponting's list of bolters for Australia's T20 tour of New Zealand next month.<\/p>\n
Australia's T20 squad is set to be stacked with fresh BBL talent given the Test team is touring South Africa at the same time.<\/p>\n
Sydney Thunder star Sangha is the fourth leading wicket-taker in the 2020-21 BBL with 20 at an average of 16.5 and economy rate of 7.95<\/p>\n
A recent graduate of Australia's under-19 team, Ponting said Sangha was more ready for international cricket than fellow BBL spin standout Peter Hatzoglou (Melbourne Renegades).<\/p>\n
Australia's T20 team is expected to be without Test spinners Nathan Lyon and Mitch Swepson while Ashton Agar is in doubt with injury.<\/p>\n

Adam Zampa will be the first choice T20 leg-spinner.<\/p>\n
"I think it's a bit early for Hatzoglou to be playing international cricket\u2026 but Tanveer Sangha is a different question," Australian legend Ponting told cricket.com.au.<\/a><\/p>\n "He's a young bloke who looks like he's pretty confident and in control of what he's doing, and he bowls proper good balls so he might be someone they'd look to get into the system.<\/p>\n "It's a hard one for young leg-spinners, because they come along quickly and everyone's excited by how good they might be, quite often they're introduced early and they can have a few setbacks after that.<\/p>\n "But they might have to think about that."<\/p>\n Ponting added that Sydney Sixers gun Josh Philippe was also primed for his international T20 debut although Perth Scorchers star Josh Inglis was a dark horse candidate.<\/p>\n "He's the other one I'd love to get a look at at some stage because I think he's a real talent," Ponting said.<\/p>\n "Him and Philippe are probably going for the same spot – Inglis is probably regarded as being a better keeper, Philippe might be slightly more explosive at the top of the order.<\/p>\n "But geez, I reckon Inglis has got something.<\/p>\n "He plays spin beautifully\u2026 he played Rashid Khan on his ear, so there's that side of it.<\/p>\n "And he's batted at the top of the order in first class cricket for WA, so there obviously must be a good technique in behind what he can do in the white ball stuff.<\/p>\n "I know Painey (Tim Paine) and 'Hadds' (Brad Haddin) have spent a fair bit of time with the keepers and Hadds said he's very, very good with the gloves.<\/p>\n "He's got a couple of hundreds in the Shield\u2026 so with those two and (Alex) Carey, we've got no shortage of keeper\/batsmen coming through."<\/p>\n Ponting also name checked in-form Adelaide Strikers paceman Wes Agar as another uncapped BBL standout who would be in selection consideration to face the Black Caps in five T20s from February 22 in Christchurch.<\/p>\n But he may miss out behind the likes of Sean Abbott, Kane Richardson, Daniel Sams, Riley Meredith, Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff.<\/p>\n "Wes Agar's a dark horse, definitely," Ponting said.<\/p>\n "On the back of what he's done, he got another four wickets the other night and he's one of the leading wicket-takers in the Big Bash."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Teenaged leg-spin sensation Tanveer Sangha headlines Ricky Ponting's list of bolters for Australia's T20 tour of New Zealand next month.
