Thanasi Kokkinakis<\/a> admits doubles partner Nick Kyrgios<\/a> is "no saint", but he also believes Australia's top men's seed at the Australian Open<\/a> receives "unfair" treatment from the media.<\/p>\n

Kokkinakis was asked for his thoughts on the media's coverage of Kyrgios on the cusp of the Melbourne major, in which the pair will aim to defend their Australian Open doubles crown<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"I think sort of some of the stuff he does that maybe people see as negative gets thrown in the spotlight a little more than others because of maybe he's had a reputation for it," Kokkinakis told reporters.<\/p>\n

"A few things, if other players did it, wouldn't be as sort of focused on as when Nick does it.<\/p>\n

"He's no saint at the same time. He's done a couple things that are probably warranted.<\/p>\n

"I think some of the stuff is unfair."<\/p>\n

Kyrgios continued to cause a stir during the lead-up to the Australian Open.<\/p>\n

The Canberran scoffed at Ash Barty claiming the 2022 John Newcombe Medal<\/a>, suggesting on social media that he deserved to win the honour.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Lleyton Hewitt, Australia's United Cup captain, then swiped him in a press conference over his 11th-hour withdrawal from the mixed-gender tournament<\/a>.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"At the end of the day he's just finding a way to try and do as well as he can," Kokkinakis added.<\/p>\n

"There's a lot of pressure on him. He feels like he's trying to do as well as he can. Sometimes he copes with it. Everyone copes with stuff in different ways.<\/p>\n

"He had a phenomenal year last year. He's going to continue to give it his all."<\/p>\n

Kyrgios is hoping to win his maiden singles grand slam six months after contesting his first major singles final, in which he lost to Novak Djokovic in Wimbledon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kokkinakis was asked what it would be like if an Australian man won the singles tournament at Melbourne Park.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Chaos," he said with a laugh.<\/p>\n

"Honestly chaos."<\/p>\n
