T\ufeffhe Sydney Roosters<\/a>' preparations for the 2023 season have been dealt a blow with star hooker Connor Watson<\/a> picking up a potentially serious knee injury.<\/p>\n

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Watson \ufeffpicked up the injury while training on Friday, suffering a suspected patella tendon injury.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old is set to meet with a surgeon next week to determine a timetable on his potential return, but will miss the beginning of the NRL season.<\/p>\n

\ufeffWatson enjoyed a successful first season on his return to the Roosters in 2022, making 21 appearances for Trent Robinson's side.<\/p>\n

The stint is Watson's second with the Roosters after making his debut for the club back in 2016.<\/p>\n

He made 38 appearances across two seasons before joining the Newcastle Knights, where he made 66 appearances over four seasons.<\/p>\n

Watson knocked back a contract extension with the Knights to re-join the Roosters on a two-year deal in 2022.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe Roosters will kick off their 2023 season by travelling to Brisbane to take on the NRL's newest team, the Dolphins, in round 1 on March 5.<\/p>\n
