Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> is still struggling with the burden of being the world's No.1 tennis player, the teenage phenomenon's coach says.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard became the youngest ever men's No.1 when he won the US Open in September.<\/a><\/p>\n

Still only 19, the precocious talent will be a hunted man when he takes the court at the Australian Open in January.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"After the US Open, it was difficult for him to adapt to this new role on the circuit," coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, himself a former No.1, told Arab News ahead of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, which starts on Friday at 11pm AEDT.<\/p>\n

"I talked to him about how he had to deal with everything, but I think he needed to feel it and live it, to go to a tournament and feel the pressure to be No.1, to play matches in this position.<\/p>\n

"It is not very easy at first, even at 19 years old. He is not very mature to control everything that is happening to him at the moment. He is at a point where he has to live it and adapt.<\/p>\n

"He knows he's going to be like this at least until the Australian Open, so he has to try to be normal, but at the same time he's not normal."<\/p>\n

Alcaraz and world No.3 Casper Ruud – who lost the 2022 US Open final to the Spanish teen – have been granted direct berths into the Mubadala semi-finals by virtue of their high rankings.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz will play the winner of the Andrey Rublev vs Borna Coric quarter-final while Ruud will take on the winner of Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Cameron Norrie.<\/p>\n

Women's world No.2 Ons Jabeur will play \ufeffEmma Raducanu in an exhibition match on Saturday (AEDT).<\/p>\n
