The Formula 1<\/a> paddock has been shaken by the sudden departure of Jost Capito as Williams team principal.<\/p>\n

Capito joined the iconic team at the start of 2020 as the company's CEO before moving into the team principal role midway through 2021.<\/p>\n

Now, the motorsport manager is on his way out the door.<\/p>\n

According to the BBC, the team's owners decided during the summer break not to renew the charismatic German's contract.<\/p>\n

Capito's departure also came with news that French engineer and Williams technical director Francois-Xavier 'FX' Demaison would also leave the company.<\/p>\n

Williams said it will announce its new team principal and technical director in due course.<\/p>\n

"It has been a huge privilege to lead Williams Racing for the last two seasons and to lay the foundations for the turnaround of this great team," said Capito.<\/p>\n

"I look forward to watching the team as it continues on its path to future success."<\/p>\n

Dorilton Capital, the investment firm which owns the Formula 1 team, indicated Capito may be set to retire.<\/p>\n

"We would like to thank Jost for his hard work and dedication as we embarked on a major transformation process to begin the journey of reviving Williams Racing," said Dorilton Capital chairman Matthew Savage.<\/p>\n

"We're grateful that Jost postponed his planned retirement to take on this challenge and now he will pass the reins on for the next part of this staged process.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We would also like to thank FX for his contribution and wish him all the best for his future as he moves on."<\/p>\n

Although Capito hasn't explicitly outlined his future, he could conceivably be headhunted for a new role at Sauber, which will become the factory-backed Audi team in 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Capito headed Volkswagen's motorsport program between 2012 and 2016. Audi's parent company is the Volkswagen Group.<\/p>\n

It's looking likely that Sauber will need to find itself a new team principal with growing speculation incumbent chief Frederic Vasseur will land the vacant position at Ferrari.<\/p>\n

After being promoted to team principal in 2019, Mattia Binotto led Ferrari to second in the constructors' championship in 2022.<\/p>\n

The Scuderia started this year strongly and occupied the top two spots in the drivers' championship but faded as the year progressed.<\/p>\n

Upon Charles Leclerc finishing a distant second to Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz ending up fifth, Binotto resigned from his post<\/a>.<\/p>\n
