Back in the 1980s, Sandy Campbell was one of rugby league's<\/a> glamour boys – a try-scoring winger adored by fans.<\/p>\n

Campbell featured in a memorable front page of Rugby League Week at the height of his fame with a studio photo of him in his dancing gear.<\/p>\n

But fast forward to 2022 and Campbell has had a sad fall from grace – he is homeless, wandering the streets in the daytime with all his worldly goods in a shopping trolley and sleeping at night under Coolangatta surf club on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

To make matters worse, Campbell, now 56, found out a month ago that he has lung cancer and is having weekly chemotherapy.<\/p>\n

The ex-Bulldogs, Roosters and South Sydney star hasn't been forgotten by the game.<\/p>\n

His former teammates are rallying around him and Family of League (formerly Men of League) is also looking to help out.<\/p>\n

"It's been sad – he was fine until a year or so ago when things fell apart," former teammate Kurt Landers told Wide World of Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"I am determined to help him out and so have plenty of other guys who played with and against him.<\/p>\n

"I'm going up to the Gold Coast soon to check in on him and we are looking to set up a GoFundMe page to help him.<\/p>\n

"Hopefully the fans who he gave a lot of joy to can pitch in.<\/p>\n

"I've spoken to Family of League and they have also promised to do something."<\/p>\n
