World No.1 tennis superstar Ash Barty has apologised after flouting COVID-19 laws while shopping in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

The Australian champion was today seen maskless at a Coles store in Prahran in Melbourne's inner east, despite Victoria requiring masks be worn inside indoor shopping centres and large retail outlets in the fight against the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

Barty's manager released a statement shortly after, describing her actions as "an innocent mistake" and saying the 24-year-old would get more serious about following virus regulations.<\/p>\n

Barty recently hit out at her international rivals complaining of the strict stance on overseas Australian Open contestants, saying the protocols were about "keeping Melburnians safe" and "making sure we put health first has to be the priority".<\/p>\n

The Queenslander has been based in Melbourne for several weeks and, unlike international players, doesn't have to complete a hotel quarantine.<\/p>\n
