Rory McIlroy<\/a> is urging bitter rivals the PGA Tour<\/a> and LIV Golf<\/a> to find a compromise, \ufeffwith the world No.1 saying "there is no more time to waste."<\/p>\n

The sport has been divided since LIV Golf started earlier this year, with players, including major champions Cameron Smith<\/a>, \ufeffBrooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson banned from the PGA Tour after accepting big-money deals from LIV Golf.<\/p>\n

Forbes magazine recently estimated the Saudi Arabian government will pump \ufeffaround $3.7 billion into the breakaway tour over the first two years.<\/p>\n

McIlroy has been perhaps the highest-profile critic of LIV Golf, at one point suggesting players who had signed with the Greg Norman-led tour had "made their bed, and they have to live with that.\ufeff"\ufeff<\/strong><\/p>\n

But he's now struck a more conciliatory tone, suggesting the two warring sides will have to come together for the good of the sport.<\/p>\n

"I believe there is no more time to waste \u2026 PGA Tour and LIV will have to find a compromise and speak for the sake of our sport," McIlroy told Italy's Golf & Turismo.<\/p>\n

"I don't know when this can happen, certainly not tomorrow, but of course we will have to find an agreement."<\/p>\n

The four-time major champion noted the sport isn't big enough to survive a long-term split.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Golf is a small reality," he said.<\/p>\n

"It is not football where there are large worlds inside it such as Serie A, the Champions League, FIFA and UEFA that coexist with each other.<\/p>\n

"We need to stick together and find a way to ensure that, in the future, there are no splits like the one we are witnessing today."<\/p>\n

McIlroy's comments echo those of Norman, who has repeatedly emphasised that LIV Golf \ufeffis prepared to work alongside the PGA Tour, rather than against it.<\/p>\n

"That is what has disappointed me the most," he said recently.<\/p>\n

"There was always room \u2014 always, always, always room \u2014 and there still is room for them [the PGA Tour] to sit down and understand what we have and what this is all about.<\/p>\n

"I quite honestly think the ball is in their court. It's not in ours. We've tried. We've tried on numerous occasions, not just me personally but before I even came on board."<\/p>\n
