UPDATE:\ufeff<\/strong> Pakistan<\/a> have defeated Bangladesh<\/a> by five wickets to progress to the semi finals. The win denies South Africa a spot in the top-two of Group 2.<\/p>\n

Shaheen Afridi produced an inspired spell of fast bowling to restrict Bangladesh to 8-127, before star opening batsmen Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan combined for a 57-run partnership to set Pakistan up for the win.<\/p>\n

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan looked bewildered and bemused when a review for an lbw shout went the other way despite appearing to hit the ball.<\/p>\n

In what was a must-win match for both Bangladesh and Pakistan, The Tigers made their way to 2\/73 in the 11th over having elected to bat first at the Adelaide Oval.<\/p>\n

After the loss of Soumya Sarkar, the captain wandered out onto the pitch to face spinner Shadab Khan.<\/p>\n

Advancing down the wicket, the ball hit Al Hasan on his foot. Khan appealed, and after a lengthy wait, the South African umpire Adrian Holdstock raised his finger.<\/p>\n

Al Hasan immediately reviewed the decision, which was looked at by Zimbabwean television umpire Langton Rusere.<\/p>\n

Upon review, a clear spike could be seen on Ultra Edge as the ball passed the bat.<\/p>\n

The bat appeared to be off the ground, at least in the view of commentators and many of the Bangladesh fans at the Adelaide Oval.<\/p>\n

"The bat is on the ground, the ball hasn't contacted the bat, for me," said Rusere.<\/p>\n

"The ball has not got into the bat yet. The bat hits the ground. No bat [is] involved. It's the bat hitting the ground."<\/p>\n

Upon going to ball tracking, it was adjudicated Al Hasan was out lbw and the umpire raised his finger once more.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Al Hasan immediately confronted the umpire and for a short period refused to leave the field.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"He cannot believe it, he doesn't want to leave and I can understand why," said commentator Athar Ali Khan.<\/p>\n

"I cannot believe it too, but he has to go. Unbelievable. Just looking at the replays, I thought there was bat on ball, but he has to go, first ball, naught.<\/p>\n

"It took him a long time to go back, and I can also understand but I also feel that he hit the ball. It was an inside edge, as far as I am concerned.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Clearly an inside edge onto the boots. Because when there was connection, the bat was above the ground. Unbelievable."<\/p>\n

The match is a must-win would see them progress to the semi-finals of the tournament.<\/p>\n

They looked for an outside chance but were given a lifeline after the Netherlands beat South Africa in Sunday's other match at the same venue.<\/p>\n

After the first innings, Bangladesh wound up 8\/127.<\/p>\n
