Cricket legends Mark Taylor and Ian \ufeffChappell agree Australia's selectors have "got it wrong" by snubbing master batter Steve Smith at the Twenty20 World Cup so far.<\/p>\n

Smith is yet to be named in the XI despite being in the 15-player squad to help the Aussies defend their title. Young all-rounder Cameron Green and back-up quick Kane Richardson are the other members of the squad yet to make a 2022 World Cup appearance.<\/p>\n

Smith, 33, is on the verge of being recalled to the team with injury concerns over opening batter Aaron Finch and middle-order slugger Tim David.<\/p>\n

Australia has to beat Afghanistan on Friday night to have any chance of continuing past the group stage.<\/p>\n

The Aussies then still have to rely on either New Zealand or England losing, or a big swing in net run rate\ufeff with England, as explained by Wide World of Sports HERE<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Australia was thumped by 89 runs by New Zealand in their tournament opener, then had a match against England rained out in between beating Sri Lanka and Ireland.<\/p>\n

It's left the home team in a precarious position\ufeff, and Taylor says selectors have done themselves no favours.<\/p>\n

"I think they've got that wrong (leaving Smith out), Australia. They've had this idea to play fearless cricket which seems to be flavour of the month at the moment," Taylor told Wide World of Sports' Outside The Rope<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"In Australia it's a different game. The bowler is in the game so much more than in Dubai last year, or in the IPL, where a lot of people are making a name for themselves.<\/p>\n

\"Aussie<\/p>\n

"(Those conditions are) fairly low, slow, flat wickets that turn a little bit. What generally happens is you tee off, the first six overs 60 or 70 (runs) and then the slows (bowlers) come in and make a difference.<\/p>\n

"In Australia, particularly early in the summer, there's something in the pitches. All of a sudden 0-36 off six overs is a good score. In the IPL you wouldn't play again if your opening batsman \ufeffwas 0-36 after six.<\/p>\n

"I don't think Australia has adapted to our own conditions as well as we should have.<\/p>\n

"This is a different World Cup and I like it because the bowlers are in the game. To me it's far more watchable when the bowlers are in the game.<\/p>\n

\"Maxwell<\/p>\n

"I think Australia have missed a trick. Virat Kohli's been the player of the tournament so far, and Kane Williamson plays a role for New Zealand where he nudges it around.<\/p>\n

"That seems to be the right formula."<\/p>\n

\ufeffFellow Australian legend Chappell agrees Smith should be in the starting XI.<\/p>\n

"Smith's a very good player, and why is he a very good player? Because he's smart," Chappell told Outside The Rope<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"It's a very good point you make about Smith and Williamson, and I think Smith could have replicated that role in the Australian side."<\/p>\n

Finch on Thursday rated himself a "70-30" chance of playing on Friday as he races to overcome a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n
