Samoa Rugby League<\/a> coach Matt Parish has condemned questioning directed at captain Junior Paulo<\/a>, labelling the inquiry as "unfair".<\/p>\n

Fronting the media on Monday following Toa Samoa's 62-4 win over France to advance to the quarter-finals of the Rugby League World Cup<\/a>, Parish began his tense post-match press conference with a hostile swipe at the assembled journalists.<\/p>\n

"Are you going to write the truth tonight?" he asked.<\/p>\n

Immediately asked to elaborate on his probe, \ufeffParish replied: "People know".<\/p>\n

Last year\ufeff several Samoan players signed a petition for the former Balmain Tigers player to be axed as coach. This foreshadowed a push for the Johns brothers to take his place<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Calls for Parish to step down re-emerged after Samoa lost its\ufeff opening group match 60-6 at the hands of England.<\/p>\n

Seemingly on edge, Parish became enraged when Paulo was asked whether the side's meeting with fellow Pacific nation Tonga in next week's quarter-finals would showcase a more ferocious rivalry than State of Origin.<\/p>\n

"We're proud of where we grew up. But we're also proud of our heritage, we see how much it means to the people celebrating and parading around for both (countries)," the NSW Blues mainstay said.<\/p>\n

As the line of questioning continued, Parish interjected.<\/p>\n

"I think you are unfair comparing this to Origin, fair dinkum, very unfair," Parish said.<\/p>\n

"Asking him that, it is (a great rivalry) but so is NSW and Queensland but asking him to comment on that, I think that's very unfair."<\/p>\n

Following the heavy defeat to England, Samoa bounced back with recovery wins over Greece and France, leading the team to finish second in group A.<\/p>\n

Samoa has not beaten Tonga since 2016. In that time the Kristian Woolf-led side has knocked off Australia, Great Britain and New Zealand to climb to second on the world rankings.<\/p>\n
