Wallaroos<\/a> veteran Sharni Williams has called for fresh financial support to boost her team's bid for a Rugby World Cup<\/a> win in 2025.<\/p>\n

England were too good for Australia in the quarter-final, dominating an 80-minute contest played in the toughest conditions of this year's tournament to win 41-5.<\/p>\n

Just two of Australia's players are paid, professional athletes. The rest work full-time or study while balancing their commitments with the national team.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the loss, Williams said more support is needed if Australia wants to win the next edition of the Rugby World Cup in England.<\/p>\n

"The thread we put on is professional, but for these amateurs \u2013 every single day they get to put it on is a reward,"\u00a0 said the veteran Wallaroos centre.<\/p>\n

"They are obviously playing for their country, but they're also working really hard. We've got teachers, physios, all of that outside of here.<\/p>\n

"We came into this as the underdogs and we're still underdogs within rugby," she added.<\/p>\n

"Let's just hope that we can find some sponsors out there, find a bit of money, and reward these girls for what they're doing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We're out there sacrificing our bodies, putting bodies on the line for each other, but mainly for Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We love representing our country and sport is massive in Australia, so let's get around them.<\/p>\n

"It doesn't stop here thought, right? We really need everyone around Australia to continue to support the Wallaroos\ufeff. <\/p>\n

"Not just at World Cups, not just at little events, but it's all that Super W as well. it's really important."<\/p>\n

Rain pelted Waitakere Stadium for the lion's share of the match and England looked at home in the gloomy conditions, scoring seven tries to Australia's one.<\/p>\n

Indeed, it was the Red Roses who opened the scoring in the eighth minute of the match with a try under the posts courtesy of captain Sarah Hunter.<\/p>\n

She celebrated becoming the most capped player for England across the women's and men's game with her 138th start.<\/p>\n

Marlie Packer crossed the chalk in the 30th and 38th minute to take England into halftime with a considerable lead at 19-5.<\/p>\n

The Wallaroos' only points of the match came just short of the break when Emily Chancellor scored their "try of the tournament" off the back of a scintillating passage.<\/p>\n

It was the only glimmer of hope for Australia after England dominated possession and territory in the first half.<\/p>\n

Having been outclassed in the first half, the Wallaroos looked unlikely to threaten in the second.<\/p>\n

Abbie Ward opened the scoring in the 43rd minute before Amy Cokayne scored in the 53th and Alex Matthews in the 65th.<\/p>\n

The final nail in the coffin came in the 80th minute when another driving maul off the back of a lineout earned Packer her third try of the match.<\/p>\n

All told, England cruised home to a 41-5 win.<\/p>\n

"Obviously pretty gutted," said Williams.<\/p>\n

"We love to win, but obviously that wasn't the case today. We did absorb a lot of pressure. We knew that England were going to come out firing and that's what they did.<\/p>\n

"That first half, we should be really proud of our efforts, but obviously couldn't hold on for that 80 minutes."<\/p>\n

England will face the winner of Saturday's other match between the USA and Canada while New Zealand will go head-to-head with France in the other semi-final.<\/p>\n
