T\ufeffhe West Indies \u2014 the only team with two T20 World Cup<\/a> trophies in the cabinet \u2014 have been ousted from this year's tournament before the super-12 stage.<\/p>\n

Captain Nicholas Pooran and his teammates\ufeff are devastated after a nine-wicket defeat to Ireland at Hobart's Bellerive Oval on Friday sealed their early exit.<\/p>\n

After mustering a total of only 5-146, the West Indies appeared bereft of answers with the ball as Ireland hunted down the required runs with ease.<\/p>\n

Piloted by big-framed opening batter Paul Stirling, who compiled an unbeaten 66 from 48, the Irish took 17.3 overs to complete the chase.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The pursuit was completed when\ufeff first drop Lorcan Tucker danced down the wicket at left-arm quick Obed McCoy and lofted the ball over cover for four.<\/p>\n

"Irish eyes are smiling, and they'll be smiling as this tournament goes on," Pommie Mbangwa said in commentary.<\/p>\n

"And the West Indies must pack their bags and go home.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

A smattering of Irish in the crowd, many in green and some wearing leprechaun hats, clapped and cheered in celebration of the huge achievement.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's obviously an incredible day for us," said leg-spinner Gareth Delany, who collected man-of-the-match honours after taking 3-16.<\/p>\n

"This time last year we were all sitting around the dressing room after probably one of the toughest days for a lot of us (after being knocked out of the 2021 T20 World Cup), so to get over the line today in the fashion we did is amazing."\ufeff<\/p>\n

In the West Indies' three World Cup matches, they lost to Scotland by 42 runs,\ufeff overcame Zimbabwe by 31 runs and were defeated by Ireland by nine wickets.<\/p>\n

The West Indies' batting was a weak point in their botched World Cup campaign, with the men from the Caribbean posting 118 against Scotland, 153 against Zimbabwe and 146 in the Ireland clash.<\/p>\n
